The introduction of the video cameras exposed us to all of the functions and features within the machine. In the tutorial we where taught the basics such as opening the lens, switching the camera on/off. As well as these basics we also learnt how to focus into areas, switching between memory cards, zooming in/ out, inserting the batteries etc. The main objective of this tutorial was to learn how to handle the equipment with out causing any damageto it. Each members of the group had a chance in order to try out the basic steps of using the camera.
We where also taught how to set up the tripod and place the camera accurately as this may have had an effect on the footage recorded. We where also given advice on how to handle the equipment on different weather conditions such as carrying an umbrella if needed and only filming if the weather was appropriate in order not to cause any damage to the equipment.
This basic tutorial of the cameras gave us a better understanding of the camera work and the features that was available to use. The basic talk about the health and safety for both us students and the equipment while out of the college premises clearly stated out what was not suppose to be done while using the equipment.
